Christina Ruiz You too Christina!!!
You come up with some truly great analogies! And 5 minutes after watching this, I was reading an article on Psychology Today that had a related analogy about sleep: We believe tiredness can be cured by going to bed early or attempting to sleep in, but trying to force sleep when your brain is not sleepy is like trying to fall in love with someone youāre just not into. It will only cause angst and drama before you give up. So, listen to your body ā if youāre sleepy, go to bed. If youāre not sleepy, enjoy your extra “me time.”
It’s a short article, but with great insights by a sleep psychologist (you two should connect—you think very much alike!). She does a great job of differentiating between tiredness and sleepiness. She notes that Dr. Google isn’t helpful in determining how much sleep you need since it’s usually just going to say 8 hours or 7 to 9 hours without knowing you as an individual. As she points out, a couch potato doing nothing but playing video games all day long may not need as much water (or calories) as an Olympic gymnast in training! And that “enough” sleep is different for everyone—and may differ throughout your life.
Here’s another great one from her blog:
“And rememberāsleep is a friend to be welcomed when she arrives, not a fugitive to be hunted down. If you have a good relationship with this friend, sheāll show up every night and keep you good company. Sometimes, she may arrive later than usual and leave you during the night, and thatās okay. Sheāll be back. Be forgiving and enjoy your āmeā time until she comes again.”
Have a great weekend!
Ellen Lederman WOW this is amazing stuff Ellen! Love these insights and analogies š
